Mechanical Engineer -Product Development

Job Description Industry-leading scientific equipment manufacturer seeks a qualified and motivated engineer to join the Microtrac Technical Team.
The candidate will participate in Production and Manufacturing Operations, as well as Product Development, in a fast-paced and challenging work environment.
In these roles, the candidates' skills in written and verbal communications, the ability to work within a team, the ability to multitask, and capacity for critical thinking, will all be tested and relied upon.
Responsibilities may include:
Willingness to accept the authority and autonomy to make running improvements to released products.
The goal of such improvements would be to improve product quality, product performance, production assembly, etc.
Use various means such as CAD software to revise or create technical documentation to generate these improvements, and see these through to production-release.
When necessary, consult with other experienced members of Technical Teams, for advice and review of suggested product improvements.
Design and develop custom equipment that is necessary for production; such as fixtures, jigs, tooling; also automated/semi-automated test equipment, etc.
Create the technical documentation to support this equipment.
For larger projects, create project proposals and plans for such equipment, to justify the project to management.
Along with the Quality Team, interact with suppliers and vendors, to be sure that desired characteristics and specifications of purchased parts and components are understood, and to be sure that received parts will meet those specifications.
Inspect and assess defective hardware.
Help to provide suppliers with clarity when parts specs are in dispute.
Collaborate with members of multiple MRB Teams, to suggest and introduce new product concepts.
Participate in engineering design reviews and production implementation through the Product Development phases:
Prototype, Alpha Units, Beta Units, Production Release.
Throughout the design process, focus on Design for Manufacturing to ensure that parts are manufacturable in an efficient manner.
Interface with experienced members of the Technical Team electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, scientists, etc.
, and material suppliers, to modify and enhance manufacturability of products; accountable for yields of highly complex processes.
Explore new manufacturing methods and techniques, new component materials, etc.
; such as 3D Printing, metal-machining, metal-forming, plastics fabrications; that can impact Product Development.
Introduce these concepts to the Engineering Team, present and train other Team members on their potential application to Microtrac Products.
Location This job is located at Microtrac's facility in York, PA.
Minor, infrequent travel may be required.
Minimum Required Experience and Education Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing Technology, or similar disciplines).
Two (2)
years of experience minimum as a Mechanical Engineer or Product Engineer, or similar position, within a manufacturing environment.
Knowledge of component-fabrication techniques, such as metal machining, sheet-metal fabrication, plastics and plastic-molding, electrical and electronic subassembly.
Knowledge of part-inspection techniques, familiarity with common hand- and machine-tools.
Proven communication skills, both written and verbal.
Experience with reading and understanding technical documentation, such as drawings, schematics, various forms of electronic CAD, etc.
Intermediate to advanced experience with Mechanical CAD software.
Such as SolidWorks, SolidEdge, etc.
for 3-D solid-body mechanical design; experience with other packages for 'flat' 2-D drawing generation (AutoCAD, Visio, etc.
) is also desirable.
Intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft Office 365 Applications (Word, Excel, and Power Point).
Preferred Additional Experience Five (5)
years of experience as Mechanical Engineer or Mechanical Designer, or similar position, within a manufacturing environment.
Experience with optical assemblies, such as lenses, mirror, apertures.
Experience with electrical, electronic, and electro-mechanical assemblies, such as Printed Circuit Assemblies, Wiring Harnesses, small Motors, actuators, fluid pumps and fluidics.
Experience with 3D Printing design, fabrication, equipment, etc.
; for either plastic or metal printing.
Exposure to enterprise-wide ERP or MRP systems, such as Microsoft Dynamics 365.
Math & Analytical skills:
intermediate mathematical skills, including statistical analysis; review and compare data to identify inconsistencies and determine priorities.
